It certainly doesn’t hurt that you’re doing cool things. Those aesthetic strengths make for a game you want to capture! And there’s a wealth of tools to use in a mode that’s quickly available at any time. In case our screenshots didn’t make it abundantly clear, we’re really impressed with the photo mode. Even in greener areas, Forbidden West’s story-crucial red plant infestations make them feel different from the original title. It’s a game that likes high contrast and tests your display’s color output. Though a lot of ecological events have passed in the interim, there’s still a lot of rocks and sand along the way. As the title suggests, you’ll move westward in what used to be the United States. The biggest difference from the first game? That’s clearly the desert feel. It doesn’t quite push the tech specs in a way you might want from a next-gen showpiece, but it gets a lot out of colors and texture to make environments feel different. Its still damn fun and the game feels so polished and fluid compared to X:CS which i've just come from.Aesthetically, Horizon: Forbidden West is still a joy to behold. I really don't know what skill builds or team comps are good and I know I'm being punished for that lack of knowledge. Honestly at this point, I wish I had started on normal difficulty. Its feels like BS that they get an immediate turn action upon emerging but I know its just a matter of getting use to. Those e-holes are no joke and I learnt that if I'm going to overwatch them, I better have the firepower to take them out or be far enough that the emerging grubs can't score an immediate hit on my gears.

There's a mission where you have to defend a given point later where I had to restart from checkpoint 4 times as I kept getting overrun. Every mission after has felt the same barely scraping through. I was already thinking by the 3rd chapter that the difficulty might be too high, but I got through that still without restarts (barely). I never play with ironman as its just not a game mode for me.ĭecided to try the difficulty just above baseline for gears (i think 3rd hardest out of the 4 difficulties). Played TBS games a decent amount but I'm pretty casual. I haven't seen the AI do many things truly stupid - it's almost evil how the AI lays overwatch all over you if you make a bad move - I love it - I heard/read that they aren't coded to execute immediately but will eventually - and that's a good or I probably would've restarted. The AI seems pretty solid too - that's a factor. I think the devs have orchestrated this bit well. Restarting games is ok but not something I really want to do in a more campaign oriented game. In most such games I would've restarted a few times by now due to learning curve but this game is more forgiving with respec out the door, how you can rescue downed teammates (haven't fully lost anybody yet), and being able to restart missions if you all out pooch it. I like these mechanics quite a bit - it's a refreshing change. I've had to restart a few missions due to having a really bad overall approach and no clue what to expect. Just part of the new strategy game experience. You take big hits a lot, the opportunity attacks, overwatch is way different and more of a regularly used element, multiple actions per turn lets enemies do way more - lots to adjust to. I'm doing Gears on whatever the baseline normal diff is and getting worked some but it's due to learning new mechanics. What I don't like is people who play on higher diffs then cop an attitude, but it's the internet - whatever. I'm challenged on normal because I don't dig too hard into details, where others need to crank it up because they do dig into the details.
